Year 5
Welcome to Year 5!
Our Year 5 classes are Puffins, Gannetts and Guillemots taught by Miss Conway, Mr Smith and Mrs Robinson.
Articles 28 and 29 (United Nation’s Children’s Rights Charter)
Every child has the right to a good quality education where they can develop their personality, talents and abilities to the full.
We will be scouring the Earth this year, from Ancient Greece to Outer Space and back down to Earth to investigate the early Islamic history of the Middle East. Not to mention having a daily diet of mathematics, reading and writing!
Our curriculum is always centred around a key text in English which links to our topics. Our engaging, vocabulary-rich key texts will include a range of non-fiction and fiction. The children will have the opportunity to write reports, diary entries, missing chapters, letters, descriptions, instructions and more! Each week, they will have a clear purpose in writing and learn new skills – such as adverbial phrases, inverted commas and expanded noun phrases – which will enable them to become amazing writers who wow their readers!
With our exciting variety of texts, we encourage a love of reading in class and enjoy hearing about the children’s adventures in reading at home. The children currently choose one library book and one reading book to take home each week.
In Year 5, we love taking our learning outside. As well as all the learning in school, our fun-filled Year 5 curriculum includes swimming at Huddersfield Leisure Centre. There is so much to do, the time will fly by!
With all this going on it is clear to see why being in Year 5 is so much fun.
