Beaumont Primary Academy

Year 3

Welcome to Year 3

Welcome to Y3 and our adventures in learning.

Our Y3 classes are: Woodpeckers taught by Mrs Cummins, Robins taught by Miss Cork and Kingfishers taught by Miss Young. We have a wonderful year planned for you, which is full of learning and new experiences. We will start the year designing our own class charter based on Rights Respecting Schools and our three core rights: The right to learn The right to be safe The right to play. Throughout the year we become scientists, authors, mathematicians, explorers, sports people, archaeologists but most of all we love learning new things.  During the year, we will become Stone Age hunter-gatherers, volcanologists in our quest to learn about volcanoes, rainforest explorers and scientists experimenting with light and plants. We learn about key figures in history such as Wangari Maathai and her fight to save the forests and Nelson Mandela’s Long Walk to Freedom. Not forgetting one of our favourite stories ‘The Iron Man’ and his battle with the Space Bat-Angel-Dragon- not to be missed! One of our favourite things in Year 3 is reading; so much so we read every single day and some days we even have torches and read in the dark! We have to mention maths. We love number crunching and mastering our multiplication tables. We enjoy using Numbots and TT Rockstars to polish our number skills when we can. By the end of Y2 children should be fluent in x2, x5 and x10 times tables. Please concentrate on learning x3, x4 and x8 times tables off by heart to start with then move on when these are fluent including the division facts. Because you are so grown up now you even get to start learning french in Y3. And of course, don’t forget our adventures in Forest School and our wonderful walks to Beaumont Park. We keep fit and healthy throughout the year in PE
