Welcome to Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

In Year 2, at Beaumont Primary Academy, we are the ‘Hedgehogs’, 'Bats' and the ‘Foxes’.

 Who works in Year 2?

Miss Whittle (Class Teacher - Hedgehogs)

Mrs Turnbull  (Class Teacher - Foxes)

Miss Akram (Class Teacher- Bats)

Articles 28 and 29 (United Nation’s Children’s Rights Charter)

Every child has the right to a good quality education where they can develop their personality, talents and abilities to the full.

In year 2, we strive to ensure that every child fulfils their potential across a wide range of activities and topics while preparing them for the national SATs. Teaching and learning is developed through a mixture of styles to cater for every child’s need. A love of learning is fostered through whole class and independent tasks. Within the same day, the classroom could be a hospital in Scutari circa 1854 complete with rats and wounded soldiers or a haven for quiet reading.

Whilst English and mathematics are our bread and butter, these are linked as far as possible with other areas of the curriculum to embed learning. Children have a daily diet of reading (usually in groups), writing (including spelling) and mathematics whilst time across each week is given to other subjects including: science, history, geography, RE, PE, art, music and computing. There is also a strong focus on nurturing every child through relationship building and valuing every child, as well as lessons for PSHE.

Our year 2 children are the ambassadors for KS1 and EYFS, carrying out important roles and responsibilities that they apply for. These include: school councillors, lunchtime monitors and reception leaders.

We ask that parents support their child’s learning by listening to them read every day – remember to comment in the reading record please! – and allowing time to be given for any homework to be completed.
