Special Educational Needs and Disability Information

At Beaumont Primary Academy we are committed to making sure that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school.  We have a strong team identity across the school, with well-being a priority for everyone.

Children who have been identified as having special educational needs and / or disabilities, can get extra help in school.  This is called SEN support.  Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) at Beaumont Primary Academy is Miss Sally Tunnacliffe and Fran Moorhouse (on maternity leave) Zoe Andrews (part time maternity cover).  You can speak to Miss Tunnacliffe at any time if you have any worries or concerns.

Miss Sally Tunnacliffe can be contacted at the school on 01484 503111 or by email on office@beaumont.spacademies.org

If the school feels that your child may need SEN support, we will discuss this with you and  explain the specific support that your child will receive.  It may mean that your child is supported in some of the following ways:

  • Extra support from an additional adult, perhaps working alongside your child within a small group of other children
  • Carefully planned activities which aim to meet your child's specific needs, agreed by the class teacher and SENCo
  • Advice from professionals and / or external agencies who have a specialist knowledge, such as educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, school nurse (Locala) Early Help Assessment (EHA) Team or specialist teachers.

If your child is identified as needing SEN support, we will:

  • Put a support plan in place for your child
  • Review your child's progress regularly
  • Have regular meetings with parents to discuss progress and future support

Mental Health

Luke Jackson- Education Mental Health Practitioner with Kirklees Mental Health Support Team.

The mental health support team exists to help support children and young people who experience mild to moderate common mental health difficulties such as anxiety, depression and emotional dysregulation. We provide early interventions to address emerging mental health needs and believe in acting proactively to these needs, supporting the governments priority of increasing access to and availability of mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people.

I am trained in assessing and identifying mental health needs as well as providing interventions once the difficulty at hand has been established. Interventions can include working directly with the young person, proving group interventions and working closely with or providing further education to parents and schools on the mental health needs of children and young people.

The mental health support team promotes a ‘whole school approach’ which aims to increase the understanding of mental health needs which promotes positive mental health messages to education staff, students, parents and into the wider community through links with various support networks in the local area.
