In Reception children are given Action Words and letters to practise. They each take a reading book home to practise and embed skills.
Each holiday children are given a holiday project related to the coming topic, which they are encouraged to complete with their family.
Each week we send home phonics sheets which focus on recapping the sounds we have taught in phonics that week. In addition this focusses on preparing us for the Year 1 government phonics screening so we have alien words to read and show our grown ups our segmenting and blending skills. This homework also teaches us which Year 1 Common Exception Words we will be focussing on in phonics the next week as a pre teach in preparation for us been able to read and write these words in class.
Each week in class we have a spelling test which we then take home to practice at home and we are challenged to write these words in sentences.
For Maths, we do Jungle Maths every work which targets our mathematical fluency skills. We have 6 minutes in class to complete as many questions as we can. Once we have achieved full marks on two occasions we will move onto the next level. Once we have completed Jungle Maths in school we take this home and practice this at home.
Reading should happen every night and parents are asked to sign children’s reading records when they have read at home and put them in the allotted slot in the classroom to change.
